Tommy Lee Jones spoke highly of his late daughter Victoria Jones' acting skills in an interview published 20 years ago.

After news that Tommy's daughter Victoria was found dead at 34 in San Francisco Thursday, Jan. 1, an interview the Oscar winner, 79, conducted with The New Yorker in 2006 has resurfaced. In it, he spoke of working with Victoria, who made one of her few movie appearances in her dad's 2005 debut as a director, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

“She’s a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish,” he told the outlet of Victoria at the time. “When she was a baby, I told Leticia, her nurse, to speak to her in Spanish."

The Fugitive star also said in that interview that he once "fired my daughter" from the movie because she struggled waking in time to be on set. "She had to get up at 5 A.M. for her part. One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed. I said, ‘Honey, this is work.’ But she wouldn’t budge. So I fired her," he said of the movie's production. "Then, without telling me, the production staff went over and woke her and rushed her out to the set just in time.”

The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed to PEOPLE on Jan. 1 that it responded to a medical emergency at the San Francisco Fairmont just before 3 a.m. local time on Thursday. The fire department said that an unnamed individual was found dead at the scene. The San Francisco Police Department additionally confirmed to PEOPLE that officers responded to the hotel on Thursday, where they met with paramedics and declared an unnamed adult female dead.

NBC Bay Area also reported that a police source told the outlet that the woman found dead at the hotel was believed to be Victoria. A cause of death is unknown, though NBC Bay Area said that foul play is not suspected.

Victoria was the daughter of Tommy and his ex-wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. The former couple also http://to download this app a son, Austin Jones, 43. Victoria made her film debut in Tommy's 2002 movie Men in Black II. She is credited as Immigrant Girl in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, a Western, and also held acting credits in the movies Sorry, Haters and her dad's 2014 movie The Homesman, as well as a role in a 2005 episode of One Tree Hill.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and The Homesman also featured Victoria's stepmom Dawn Laurel-Jones as the stills photographer.
